If you are heading to Tirupati, you would usually be expecting to visit a lot of historical temples and marvel at their architectural finesse. However, being the dynamic place that Tirupati is, it houses a couple of surprises for you. One such pleasant surprise is the Papa Vinasanam Dam!
Located at a distance of 6 km from Tirumala Hills, the dam collects fresh water that falls from these hills and supplies it in order to fulfil the daily needs of the local population of the area. The place also has a holy reputation and it is believed that the water here washes away the sins of whoever touches it. Even the name, Papa Vinasam, points to this – ‘Papa’ means sins and ‘Vinasam’ means destroy.
The moment you reach this place, you will be truly mesmerised by the sheer beauty of the entire environment. Adorned with a beautiful garden, the dam also has a large number of healthy green trees around it, serving as a very soothing sight for the eyes.
Travel : From Tirupati Bus stand, it is about 8 km away and easily accessible. Papa Vinasanam Dam is a site worth visiting. This dam is especially popular for the vast number of fish in it. Its scenic beauty also allures everyone, offering a natural getaway adding to the religious Tirupati trip. There is also a well maintained garden nearby, offering a perfect site for tourists to relax and spend some time after their holy dip in Papavinasanam.
Timings : Tourists can visit from on all days of the week. The visiting timings are from 6 AM to 6 PM. It is closed on public holidays. For the convenience of the pilgrims, separate dressing rooms for men and women have been built close by.
